Freightliner Business Class (FL-Series)

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Freightliner Business Class, also called the FL-Series, was a range of medium-duty trucks that Freightliner assembled from 1991 to 2007. It was the company's first medium-duty line and replaced the Brazilian-built Mercedes-Benz L-series trucks that left the United States market in 1991. The cab came from the Mercedes-Benz LK of 1983, already used on the FLC112 with a hood added, which let Freightliner avoid the cost of tooling a new crash-tested steel cab. The first models were named by size class, the FL60 for Class 6 and the FL70 for Class 7, with a Class 5 FL50 added later and, from the 1995 model year, the Class 8 FL112 in place of the FLC112. It was sold as a straight truck and a tractor, and from 1997 it was also built as a cowled school bus chassis and as a cutaway cab. The M2 arrived in 2001 as the second generation, and FL-Series variants sold alongside it until 2007.
