Freightliner Trucks

Vehicle and Equipment Manufacturers

Freightliner Trucks is an American maker of semi tractors, vocational and medium-duty trucks and vans, headquartered in Portland, Oregon. It began in 1929 as the truck-building division of the carrier Consolidated Freightways, took the name Freightliner Corporation in 1942 and popularised the cab-over-engine tractor. Daimler-Benz bought it in 1981. During the DaimlerChrysler years of 1998 to 2007 it bought the school bus maker Thomas Built Buses, launched the Sterling brand from the former Ford heavy trucks and took over Western Star Trucks in 2000. It is now part of Daimler Truck North America, together with Western Star, Detroit Diesel and Thomas Built Buses.
