Leyland TX450

Trucks and Commercial Road Vehicles

The Leyland TX450 was a 17.5 tonne technology demonstrator concept truck developed in 1986 by the British commercial vehicle company Leyland Trucks. Its aerodynamic cab, designed by Ogle Design, carried a new driver layout that mixed analogue and cathode-ray displays with an onboard computer, disc drive and printer, an axle weighing system and a rear-view camera. A 165 hp turbocharged Leyland 320 engine drove through a continuously variable transmission, and the 6x2 chassis had traction control and trailing rear wheels that steered with the front ones, giving the manoeuvrability of a 7.5 tonne vehicle.
