The Berliet GL series was a semi-cab-over truck range first shown by Berliet in October 1949 at the Paris Motor Show and built until 1977, with more than 100,000 made in 27 years. It consisted of the GLC, GLR and GLM models, with matching TLC, TLR and TLM tractor versions, covering weights from 13.5 to 19 tonnes. Berliet called the idea modular construction, but in practice it meant sharing as many parts as possible across the range. Power came from four, five or six cylinder diesels made in house. The GLR, the best known model, was voted Truck of the 20th Century by the journal Les Routiers in 1994, and the series was succeeded by the Renault CBH.
