The Hino TH series is a family of heavy-duty diesel trucks that Hino introduced in May 1950 with the TH10, an eight-tonner powered by the new 7 litre DS10 diesel engine and considerably larger than the Japanese trucks before it, which had rarely been built for more than 6 tonnes of payload. It became a common sight in Japan and in Southeast Asia, its main export market, and later models raised output to 155 PS for the TH16 and 160 PS for the TH17 with an eight litre engine. Shorter TA and TE variants followed, and the TE was the first truck manufactured in Myanmar, where it was built until the turn of the millennium. The range was retired in 1968 in favour of cab-over trucks, while a related Z-series of four and six wheel drive trucks served the Japan Self-Defense Forces.
