The Pan-American Highway is a network of roads roughly 30,000 kilometres long, stretching from Alaska to the southern tip of Argentina. Construction began following 1930s Pan-American conference agreements; the network remains broken only by the Darien Gap, a roughly 100-kilometre stretch of roadless rainforest and swamp between Panama and Colombia.
