The Alaska Highway connects Dawson Creek, British Columbia, with Delta Junction, Alaska, across more than 2,200 kilometres of Canadian and Alaskan wilderness. Built by the United States Army in just eight months during 1942 to secure a land supply route to Alaska, it remained military-only until opening to civilian traffic in 1948.
