Gold Wings were built at a rate of 150 units a day at Marysville, Ohio, for the years 1981 to 1983. Engines still came from Japan, but Honda began to present the machine as made in America. The 1981 GL1100 differed from the year before in only small ways, and an Interstate model that was almost the same was built for 1981. Ridden by Emilio Scotto, the GL1100 is the bike that toured the world, holding the record for the longest distance of any motorcycle at 457,000 miles.
