The US XR250L, a road version of the XR250R meeting US Department of Transportation rules, was made from 1991 to 2007 but sold worldwide, with lights and tires that were road legal, a steel fuel tank, a keyed ignition with steering lock and a 12 volt battery. It was some 40 pounds heavier than the XR250R, with reduced off-road ability. This page belongs to the Honda XR Series (1985 to 1999), 1985 to 1999 model years; the generation page and the Honda XR Series model page link to the other model years, so the changes of neighbouring years can be read in order.
