In 1996, for the 1997 model year, Honda released the Special Edition version of the Honda Accord, which is not to be confused with the earlier SE. It gained a security system fitted at the factory together with keyless entry, a CD player taking one disc, side molding in the body color, distinctive alloy wheels and a sunroof; it came only with an automatic transmission and shared the LX engine. In Japan the Accord SiR-T was introduced in 1997 with a 2.0 liter F20B engine rated at 200 PS, and the 1997 SiR wagon was added to the SiR range.
