The A40 Devon and the similar two door A40 Dorset were the first post war saloons produced by Austin, marketed from 1947 to 1952 and featuring a mix of old and new technologies. The UK press previewed them at the Paris Motor Show on 22 October 1947 and expressed immediate disappointment at the conservative appearance. More than 450,000 were built before the Austin A40 Somerset replaced them in 1952. The Devon was the more successful four door version, and the Countryman estate was produced until late 1956. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in one generation: the single generation (1947 to 1952).
