For the 1977 model year the Honda Accord gained a body style. A four-door sedan joined the lineup in Japan on 14 October 1977, and a year later in the U.S., and output reached 72 hp as a 1,751 cc EK1 engine supplemented the 1,599 cc EF1 and in some markets took its place. The sedan was not technically changed from the hatchback and kept the same wheelbase, which left a rather long rear overhang to fit a full sized boot, and its roof was a little taller for more interior comfort. In Japan this was the first Honda to carry typically Japanese middle class touches, like fancy hubcaps and lace seat covers.
