Honda launched the shorter, swoopier fourth generation Legend on October 7, 2004, and it was named Japan's Car of the Year, the fourth time in five years that a Honda had won. To address market requests for a rear wheel drive V8, Honda introduced Super Handling All Wheel Drive, SH-AWD, on the Legend, which was only available with that powertrain. Honda redesigned the J35A 3.5 liter V6 with a 60 degree layout and VTEC, giving up to 300 PS, and added Select-Shift to the 5 speed automatic transmission.
