The 1984 model year is the first of the third-generation Civic, introduced in September 1983. The wheelbase grew by two to five inches, to 93.7 inches for the hatchback and 96.5 inches for the sedan, and the range became a three-door hatchback, a four-door sedan, the five-door Shuttle wagon and the CR-X coupe on common underpinnings, with MacPherson strut front suspension. It won the Car of the Year Japan Award at its introduction. In November 1984 Honda first applied the Si badge to a Japanese-market Civic, a DOHC model.
