The 503 is the two door 2+2 grand tourer that BMW manufactured from 1956 until 1959, built in coupe and cabriolet body styles alongside the 507 roadster. The 503 and 507 cost about twice their projected price and did not recover their development costs. Between May 1956 and March 1959, 413 of the 503 were built, 139 of them cabriolets. In early 1954 BMW management approved the project after the public reaction to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL show cars in New York. This site gives every generation and every model year its own page, in one generation: the single generation (1956 to 1959).
