Honda produced the ATC250R, a high performance three wheeled ATV, from 1981 to 1987, and it is cited as the first high performance ATC. It began with an air-cooled 248 cc single-cylinder two-stroke engine and had a liquid-cooled 246 cc engine by 1985. All model years were fully suspended and adjustable, with a gear-driven counter-balancer, and dual disc brakes except the 1981, which had a rear drum. The Honda Sport ATCs article gives the production span as 1981 to 1986. This site lists a page for every model year in the span covered here, each focused on what changed in that year, grouped into 3 generations: the first generation (1981 to 1982 model years); the second generation (1983 to 1984 model years); the third generation (1985 to 1987 model years). Each year page links to its generation, to this model page, to the previous model year and to Honda.
