The first generation ATC250R of 1981 to 1982 was the first ATC with a two stroke engine designed specially for racing, borrowing heavily from the Honda CR250R motocross line. Before it, racers had to rely on the sluggish and poorly suspended four-stroke ATC110 and ATC185. Front suspension travel was 6.7 inches and rear travel 4.3 inches, and the 1981 had a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear. Each model year has its own page.
