The BR Standard Class 2 2-6-2T was a class of 30 small steam tank locomotives, one of the British Railways standard classes of the 1950s. It was designed at Derby Works and introduced in 1953, derived from the LMS Ivatt Class 2 2-6-2T with a reduced cab to fit the loading gauge and standard fittings, and classified 2MT for mixed traffic. The first 20 engines came from Crewe Works for the London Midland Region; the second batch of ten, numbered 84020 to 84029, were the last steam locomotives built at Darlington Works and went to the Southern Region. They carried only lined black livery, were withdrawn in the 1960s and none was preserved, although Bluebell Railway volunteers are rebuilding a tender engine into the tank version.
