Fourteen streamlined 4-8-4 Northern type steam locomotives built by the Lima Locomotive Works for the Southern Pacific Railroad, numbered 4416 through 4429, and operated from 1938 to 1957. The Coast Daylight had proved so popular that the railroad ordered a second batch of Daylight engines for the new Noon Daylight, San Joaquin Daylight and Lark trains. Their appearance was close to that of the GS-2, with a silver smokebox, skyline casing, side skirting and an air horn, the main visible change being larger drivers. They wore the orange and red Daylight colours until newer GS-4 engines displaced them, after which they were painted black, lost their skirting and worked the Peninsula commute, freight and the occasional San Joaquin Daylight. All were scrapped; one wheel from number 4422 is displayed at a museum in Pomona, California.
