Sterling Trucks was a North American heavy truck brand that Freightliner created in 1998, while Freightliner was part of DaimlerChrysler, after it bought the heavy-truck lines of Ford. It kept building the second-generation Ford Louisville and Aeromax trucks under an oval badge with a silver S, and the name came from the old Sterling Motor Truck Company, which closed in 1953. Sterling sat between Freightliner and Western Star in the group, added medium-duty trucks in the 2000s, including a rebadged Mitsubishi Fuso Canter and a rebadged Dodge Ram chassis cab, and sold in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand. Its headquarters were in Redford Township, Michigan, and Daimler ended the line in 2009.
