Morris Commercial

Vehicle and Equipment Manufacturers

Morris Commercial Cars Limited was a British maker of commercial vehicles, formed by William Morris, the founder of Morris Motors, to carry on the business of E. G. Wrigley and Company, whose assets he bought with effect from 1 January 1924 after it was put into liquidation. Serious production began at the acquired plant in Foundry Lane, Soho, Birmingham, and in 1932 the business moved to the former Wolseley factory at Adderley Park. In 1936 Morris sold the company into Morris Motors Limited, and the Morris Commercial brand name stayed in use until 1968, when British Motor Holdings merged with Leyland Motor Corporation to form the British Leyland Motor Corporation. Its wartime output included the C8 field artillery tractor, the CS8 15 cwt truck and the Terrapin amphibious carrier; postwar it built the J-type and J4 vans and the F-series and W-series light trucks, and the Adderley Park plant closed in 1971. The marque was relaunched in 2017 with a proposal for an electric J-Type.
