Lamborghini is an Italian maker of sports cars founded in 1963 by the tractor manufacturer Ferruccio Lamborghini, who set out to rival Ferrari. The company introduced the mid-engined Miura in 1966, which started the supercar layout, followed by the Countach, the Diablo and the Aventador, from its base at Sant'Agata Bolognese. It was acquired by Audi and so by the Volkswagen group in 1998. The company is known for dramatic, low-slung, high-powered road cars and, more recently, sport utility vehicles, all assembled near Bologna.
