Honda Aircraft Company is the aviation arm of the Japanese car and motorcycle builder Honda, based at Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, North Carolina. It grew out of a research programme that Honda's engineers began in 1986 and became a wholly owned subsidiary in August 2006, once Honda decided to turn the HondaJet from an experiment into a product. Michimasa Fujino, the designer of the HondaJet, shaped both the aircraft and the company that builds it. The HondaJet light business jet, with its engines mounted above the wing and a carbon composite fuselage, began reaching customers in late 2015 and has since been delivered to operators in dozens of countries. In the transport atlas it is the make behind Honda's aircraft, kept apart from the Honda and Acura road brands.
