The Panama Canal Authority, known in Spanish as Autoridad del Canal de Panama and abbreviated ACP, is the agency of the government of Panama responsible for the operation and management of the Panama Canal. It took over the administration of the canal from the Panama Canal Commission, the joint agency of the United States and Panama that had managed it, on 31 December 1999, when the canal was handed over to Panama under the Torrijos-Carter Treaties. It is headquartered in Balboa, a district of Panama City. It is recorded here as the operator of the Panama Canal.
