GM Korea Company is the South Korean subsidiary of General Motors and the third largest automobile manufacturer in South Korea. Its roots go back to Shinjin Motors, which began by rebuilding scrapped United States military vehicles after the Korean War, and to the Daewoo Motors vehicle brand that was split from its parent company in 2002. General Motors bought most of Daewoo's assets in 2001 to form GM Daewoo Auto and Technology, which started operations on October 17, 2002. In addition to importing vehicles for sale in South Korea, the company operates three manufacturing facilities producing vehicles for the domestic market and for export.
