In 1981 Honda introduced Pro-Link models of the XR500 with rising-rate single-shock rear suspension, a 17 inch rear wheel and a 21 inch front wheel, and the 1981 and 1982 XR500 used a six-petal reed valve set-up between the carburetor and the intake valves. The Honda XR200R was introduced in 1981 with the same 195 cc engine as the XR200 but with Pro-Link rear suspension and a heavier duty frame and forks. The XR100 had been brought to market in 1981.
