The third-generation Gold Wing, the GL1200, was announced at the Milan motorcycle show in late 1983 as a new 1984 model that pushed the four-cylinder engine design to its limits. The bored and stroked boxer produced more power and torque, with a new final drive ratio for taller gearing, hydraulic clutch actuation and hydraulic valve tappets that made the engine virtually maintenance-free, all on a new, stronger frame. Interstate and Aspencade models carried the line, and the GL1200L of 1985 introduced fuel injection. Each model year has its own page.
