The Saab 38, also known as the B3LA or A 38 and Sk 38, was a single-engine jet trainer and attack aircraft that Saab planned during the 1970s in collaboration with the Italian aircraft maker Aermacchi. It was meant to replace the older Saab 105 jet trainer in the Swedish Air Force. The project never got past the drawing board, and it was canceled in 1979 in favour of the more advanced Saab JAS 39 Gripen fighter. Comparable aircraft of the same role and era included the BAE Systems Hawk, the Aermacchi MB-339 and the CASA C-101. It is recorded here as a design that was planned but never built, so no flight or production date exists for it.
