Eurocopter MH-65 Dolphin

Lighter-Than-Air Craft and Rotorcraft

The MH-65 Dolphin is a twin-engined helicopter flown by the United States Coast Guard for search and rescue with medical evacuation capability and for armed use-of-force missions. It is a variant of the French-built Aérospatiale Dauphin, the SA366 G1 version of which the Coast Guard selected in 1979 to replace the Sikorsky HH-52A, and 99 of the original HH-65A model were acquired. The Dolphin was manufactured by Aerospatiale Helicopter Corporation and assembled in Grand Prairie, Texas, with American Lycoming engines fitted to meet local content rules; the engines were later replaced by Turbomeca Arriel 2C2-CG units, producing the HH-65C and the MH-65 series. It is known for its fenestron tail rotor and an autopilot that can bring it to a stable hover 50 feet above the water.
