The Cosworth RA is the 6.5-litre, naturally aspirated V12 engine that Cosworth designed, developed and built for the Aston Martin Valkyrie, a project in which Adrian Newey of Red Bull briefed Cosworth to build the ultimate internal combustion engine. The road engine is rated at 1,000 hp at 10,500 rpm, which makes it the most powerful naturally aspirated engine ever fitted to a production road car, and it revs to a maximum of 11,100 rpm. To save weight it uses titanium connecting rods, Formula One style pistons, a billet crankshaft machined from a solid steel bar and a plasma sprayed iron bore coating, and the finished engine weighs 206 kg. Cosworth first proved the combustion system on a 1.6-litre three-cylinder prototype, and the first V12 ran about fourteen months into the project. A track-only version without the hybrid system powers the Valkyrie AMR Pro, and a detuned race version limited to 8,750 rpm and 697 hp was made for the Valkyrie AMR-LMH.
