Dennis Dominator

Buses and Road Mass Transit Vehicles

The Dennis Dominator was the first rear-engined double-decker bus chassis from Dennis, launched in 1977 after the company had been absent from bus building since the last Lolines of 1967. It was sold as a bespoke chassis with many options and was seen as a successor of sorts to the Daimler and Leyland Fleetline, differing in carrying its radiator at the front rather than beside the engine. The usual choice was a Gardner 6LXB engine with a Voith DIWA transmission, though Rolls-Royce Eagle, Cummins L10 and DAF engines were also available. South Yorkshire PTE was the largest British customer, taking 318, and Leicester City Transport bought 123 between 1977 and 1989. Production became sporadic after bus deregulation in 1986 and ended with four delivered to London and Country in 1996.
