The S50 Crown was launched in 1967 with mostly the same mechanicals as before and additional equipment. It switched from the X frame to a perimeter frame for better collision protection, and television commercials used the actor Satoshi Yamamura, who would be the Crown spokesman for 16 years. This was the first model year of the Toyota Crown (third generation, S50), 1967 to 1970, which took over from the Toyota Crown (second generation, S40); the 1968 model year follows it. Model year pages for the Toyota Crown run from 1955 to 2026.
