Opel 6/16 PS

Automobiles

The Opel 6/16 PS was a mid-range car that Adam Opel KG built from 1911 to 1920 as the successor of the 6/14 PS. It continued the tradition of its two mid-range predecessors of giving buyers the look of a larger car, and four gears were unusual for a mid-range car then. A second series from 1916 had a slightly larger 1,570 cc engine that gave only 15 PS (11 kW) and was also sold as a cabriolet. Its four-cylinder inline side-valve engine displaced 1,539 cc and produced 18 PS (13.3 kW) at 1,750 rpm. Power passed through a manual 4-speed gearbox to the rear axle, and the car reached a top speed of 60 km/h. It was offered as a two-seat phaeton, a four-seat touring car, a four-door Pullman saloon or a landaulet. Production of the second series ended in 1920 without a direct successor, and the 7/34 PS continued the class from 1927.
