Opel 6

Automobiles

The Opel 6, also called the Opel 2 Liter, was a passenger car from Opel with a water-cooled inline six-cylinder engine. From 1934 to June 1937, 52,594 were delivered from Rüsselsheim, making it the best-selling German mid-range car of the 1930s. Presented in January 1934 as successor to the Opel 1.8 Liter alongside the smaller Opel 1.3 Liter, it was developed in the United States together with Opel's parent General Motors and had a torsion-resistant box frame with a cross member and a streamlined body with a boot reachable from outside. The side-valve engine had a 67.5 mm bore and 90 mm stroke for 1,932 cc and gave 36 PS (26.5 kW) at 3,300 rpm, with a top speed of 100 km/h. Hydraulic brakes on all four wheels and independent front suspension with Dubonnet knee action were new. It was offered as a two- or four-door limousine, a two-door cabriolet and a four-door landaulet, and from August 1934 to October 1936 as a six-seat Pullman limousine for taxis, of which 2,050 were sold. The Super 6 of 1937 replaced it.
