Opel 25/55 PS

Automobiles

The Opel 25/55 PS was a luxury-class passenger car that Adam Opel KG built from the start of 1913 to 1916 as the successor to the 24/50 PS. Like its predecessor it had a side-valve four-cylinder block engine, here displacing 6514 cubic centimetres and giving 62.5 PS at 1400 revolutions per minute, with the cooling water moved by a centrifugal pump. The propeller shaft ran in an oil bath instead of dry, and the top speed rose to 90 kilometres per hour. The axles hung on three-quarter elliptic leaf springs from a pressed steel channel frame, the service brake acted on the gearbox output shaft and the handbrake used drum brakes on the rear wheels only. The car was really offered only as a four-door Pullman saloon and a landaulet, with a torpedo body on request. Production ended in 1916, and the 21/55 PS of 1919 can be seen as its successor.
