Opel 21/55 PS

Automobiles

The Opel 21/55 PS was a upper-class car that Adam Opel KG built from 1919 to 1924 as the successor of the 25/55 PS. It was the first Opel with a six-cylinder engine, and Opel returned to the luxury class with it after the earlier model had been dropped in 1916 because of the war. Bodies reached up to 5,300 mm in length. Its six-cylinder inline side-valve engine displaced 5,646 cc and produced 60 PS (44 kW) at 1,500 rpm. Power passed through a leather cone clutch, a manual 4-speed gearbox and a propeller shaft to the rear axle, and the car reached a top speed of 85 km/h. It was offered as a classic Pullman saloon or a large six or seven seat touring car. Production ran out at the end of 1924, and the Opel Regent followed only in 1928.
