Opel 21/45 PS

Automobiles

The Opel 21/45 PS was a upper-class car that Adam Opel KG built only in 1909 as the successor of the 18/30 PS. It stood beside the smaller and cheaper 16/35 PS. Its four-cylinder side-valve block engine displaced 5,322 cc and produced 45 PS (33 kW) at 1,600 rpm. Power passed through a leather cone clutch, a manual 4-speed gearbox and a propeller shaft to the rear axle, and the car reached a top speed of 80 km/h. It was offered as a four-seat double phaeton, a four-door Pullman saloon, a landaulet or a two-door coupe. The double phaeton, the cheapest body, cost 16,000 reichsmarks. Production ended at the end of 1909, and the somewhat smaller 18/40 PS followed only from 1912.
