Opel 20/22 PS

Automobiles

The Opel 20/22 PS was a upper-class car that Adam Opel KG built from 1903 to 1906. It was the first upper-class car Opel built, and its frame was made of steel sections reinforced with wood. Its four-cylinder side-valve T-head engine cast as two blocks displaced 3,770 cc and produced 22 PS (16.2 kW) at 1,600 rpm. Power passed through a leather cone clutch, a manual 3-speed gearbox and a propeller shaft to the rear axle, and the car reached a top speed of 70 km/h. It was offered as a tonneau at first and, from 1905, also a two-seat phaeton, a four-seat double phaeton and a four-door saloon. The phaeton, the cheapest body, cost 12,000 reichsmarks. It was built until the end of 1906, and the larger 15/24 PS followed only in 1909.
