Opel 18/40 PS

Automobiles

The Opel 18/40 PS was a upper-class car that Adam Opel KG built from 1912 to 1914 as the successor of the 21/45 PS. It also replaced the smaller and cheaper 16/35 PS, and the coupe was no longer offered. Its four-cylinder side-valve block engine displaced 4,676 cc and produced 45 PS (33 kW) at 1,500 rpm. Power passed through a leather cone clutch, a manual 4-speed gearbox and a propeller shaft to the rear axle, and the car reached a top speed of 80 km/h. It was offered as a four-seat double phaeton, a torpedo, a four-door Pullman saloon or a landaulet. The double phaeton, the cheapest body, cost 12,750 reichsmarks. Production stopped in early 1914, and the slightly larger 20/45 PS followed.
