Opel 16/35 PS

Automobiles

The Opel 16/35 PS was a luxury-class passenger car that Adam Opel KG built in 1910 and 1911 as the successor to the 15/24 PS. Its water-cooled side-valve four-cylinder block engine, assembled from two blocks as in the predecessor, displaced 4084 cubic centimetres and gave 35 PS at 1500 revolutions per minute, with the coolant moved by a centrifugal pump. The stated top speed is 80 kilometres per hour. Power reached the rear axle through a leather cone clutch, a four-speed manual gearbox and a propeller shaft. The frame was built from pressed steel channel sections and the axles hung on three-quarter elliptic leaf springs. Buyers could choose a four-seat double phaeton, a torpedo, a four-door saloon or a landaulet, and the cheapest body, the double phaeton, cost 11,000 Reichsmark. The model line was followed by the 18/40 PS.
