Opel 14/30 PS

Automobiles

The Opel 14/30 PS was a luxury-class passenger car that Adam Opel KG built from 1913 to 1914 as the successor to the 13/30 PS. Like its predecessor it was a distinctly upmarket car. It used a side-valve inline four-cylinder engine of 3450 cubic centimetres that gave 30 PS at 1550 revolutions per minute, with a water-cooled aluminium-alloy crankcase and cast-iron cylinder heads, and the car reached 70 kilometres per hour. Power passed through a leather cone clutch and a four-speed manual gearbox to a propeller shaft and the rear axle, and only the rear wheels had band brakes. Body styles included a two-seat phaeton, a four-seat tourer, a Pullman saloon, a landaulet and a two-door coupe. The engine was developed in stages while the displacement stayed the same, producing the 14/34 PS, the 14/38 PS and finally the 14/48 PS, which ran until the end of 1924.
