MG 14/40

Automobiles

The MG 14/40, also called the MG 14/40 Mark IV, was a sports car launched by MG in 1927. It was a development of the MG 14/28 and, like that car, was based on the Morris Oxford flatnose. It was built at Edmund Road in Cowley, Oxford, where MG had moved in September 1927, and it was the first model to carry the MG Octagon badge on its radiator, where earlier cars had kept a Morris Oxford badge. The change of name from 14/28 to 14/40 seems to have been mainly a marketing exercise, and the reason for the Mark IV label is unclear, although it has been suggested that it marked the fourth year of production. Chassis and suspension saw some changes and the brake servo was dropped. Production ended in 1929 after about 700 cars.
