The Maserati 8CL is an open-wheel Grand Prix racing car designed, developed and built by Maserati from 1940 through 1946, and only two were produced. It had a longer wheelbase and succeeded the 8CTF, conceived for the International Formula, and reused the layout that had worked on the 4CL: four valves per cylinder, a square engine and two superchargers, one for each bank of four cylinders. Its 2,981.7 cc eight-cylinder engine, with Roots-type compressors and two Memini carburettors, delivered between 415 and 430 hp, and the car reached between 280 and 305 km/h. The outbreak of the Second World War interrupted its development. One car was sold in Argentina and the other was made for Scuderia Milano, with which Luigi Villoresi finished third at the 1946 Indianapolis 500 and Nino Farina won the 1948 Mar del Plata Grand Prix.
