Maserati 4C 2500

Automobiles

The Maserati 4C 2500 is a two-seat racing car that Maserati built from 1934 to 1937 in a single example. During its life the car was rebodied as a single-seater, the Maserati 4CM 2000, and in 1937 its engine was sold on its own to the Hungarian driver László Hartmann, who fitted it to his Maserati 6CM. It was made to extend the range of four-cylinder cars after the good results of the 2,000 and 2,500 cubic centimetre engines. The engine had a capacity of 2,482.6 cc with vertical cylinders, twin overhead camshafts, two valves per cylinder, a Roots supercharger fed by a Weber carburettor, a compression ratio of 5.8 to 1 and 195 CV at 5,300 rpm, with good torque even at low speeds, and the body was aluminium on a frame of steel sections. Piero Taruffi, Goffredo Zehender, José de Villapadierna, Nino Farina and Carlo Felice Trossi drove it, its first race was the 1934 Monaco Grand Prix, and its top speed was 220 km/h.
