The Hudson Greater Eight was a luxury car that Hudson built in 1931 and 1932 as the renamed successor to its 1930 Great Eight line, implying further engineering and styling gains. Hudson had moved upmarket after reaching third place in United States sales in 1929, and the straight-eight engine introduced for 1930 stayed in production through 1952. The 1931 cars rode 119 or 126 inch wheelbases with a 233.7 cubic inch L-head eight of 87 brake horsepower, and the 1932 cars grew to 254 cubic inches and 101 brake horsepower with bigger brakes. Murray built a few boat-tailed roadster bodies, the only time that style appeared on a Hudson chassis, and Frank Spring's first styling work reached the 1932 cars.
