Alvis 4.3 litre

Automobiles

The Alvis 4.3 litre was a passenger car that Alvis built from 1936 to 1940 as the successor to the 3.5 litre. The 4.3 litre SA, introduced in 1936, had an inline six-cylinder engine with overhead valves and three SU carburettors, displacing 4,387 cubic centimetres and giving 137 brake horsepower (101 kilowatts) at 3,600 revolutions per minute. Chassis came with a wheelbase of 3,150 or 3,226 millimetres and a track of 1,422 millimetres, with a rigid driven rear axle on semi-elliptic springs and independent front suspension on a transverse leaf spring. Its top speed of 161 kilometres per hour, about 100.5 miles per hour, made it a true hundred-mile-an-hour car. It was offered as a tourer, saloon or cabriolet, and production stopped without a successor in 1940 because of the war.
