The Alvis 12/60 was a sports version of the 12/50 produced by Alvis in 1931 and 1932, offered in two versions, the TK and TL, which differed mainly in their wheels. Its inline four-cylinder overhead-valve engine of 1,645 cc, fed by two SU carburettors, produced 52 bhp at 4,500 rpm, and the car came as a two-door saloon or a two-door sports tourer, with rigid axles on semi-elliptical leaf springs. Top speed was about 75 mph depending on the body, and 229 were built by 1932. It filled the gap left when the sporty Silver Eagle SD gave way to the longer, more comfortable SE, and Alvis did not return to a compact sporting four until the 12/70 of 1937.
