Alvis 11/40

Automobiles

The Alvis 11/40 was a passenger car made by Alvis from 1921 to 1922. It had an inline four-cylinder side-valve engine of 1,598 cubic centimetres with a single Solex carburettor, rated at 30 brake horsepower (22 kilowatts) at 3,800 revolutions per minute. It was offered as a four-seat touring car or as a two-seat sports tourer, the roadster form. Both axles were rigid and hung on semi-elliptic leaf springs, and the car could reach about 96 kilometres per hour. It stayed in the range for only a year: in 1922 it was replaced by the almost identical Alvis 12/40, so the two models are best read as one short run of the early four-cylinder side-valve Alvis cars.
