Sales of the Vauxhall Chevette began on 1 May 1975, from a price of 1,593 pounds, in a three door hatchback with an improved version of the 1,256 cubic centimeter overhead valve engine from the Viva. The Chevette was sold in direct competition with its Opel sister, the Kadett C, until the latter was superseded in 1979. In 1975 it was introduced as the British version of the T car family. The Chevette was the British small car of the General Motors T car family of 1975.
