The Daihatsu Hijet is a cab-over microvan and kei truck made and sold by the Japanese automaker Daihatsu since 1960. The Daihatsu Atrai, a passenger-specific version, was introduced in 1981. The first vehicle to bear the Hijet name was a kei truck in November 1960, and the enclosed light van followed in May 1961. When the first generation was replaced in February 1966 the New-Line was discontinued, and a cab-over approach adopted in 1964 gave buyers a choice between the first generation style and the cab-over. The Hijet's development has long followed the evolution of Japan's kei regulations, with an increase to 550 cc in 1976 and then to 660 cc in 1990, and the two millionth Hijet was built in 1980.
